You know those emails that occasionally get past your spam software where you've either just won the World Cup lottery or that there is a business opportunity waiting for you and you'll make thousands, if not millions, well, they're now operating out of Sweden.
It's not that they've opened an office in Sweden, it's that they've got someone here answering your telephone calls to tell you to hand over all your personal banking details, so they can then either get access or steal your identity. They won't say this to you - they'll tell you they want to put money in and I guess some hand it all over.
I first heard about this scam over 10 years ago when I got a fax from Nigeria saying that all I had to do was fly out to pick up all this money they wanted to place with a 'trusted' partner. I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now.
Why am I writing about this though? Well the email I got yesterday was from a Richard Billingham and on first glance the email was from Lawyer.com. Then when you look a little closer, you see it's actually from net.pk and then the reply address is a Gmail account.
The Lawyer.com is to make you think it's important and the net.pk, is where they've hacked in to send the these thousands of emails from but when you look at the source of the email you find out, and you wont be surprised here, that the email originates from Lagos, Nigeria.
The worrying part is though, you've got to phone this Richard Billingham in Sweden. The number exists but it's a pay as you go number and no doubt, if I was to ring it it would be someone with a strong African accent.
If you didn't already know, it's a scam and you should never give out your personal details, ever. But I guess this must be working for them as they are still doing it and have been for many many years.
