Road Tested: Safari on Windows PDF Print
Monday, 27 August 2007

Ever wondered why they say once you go Apple you don't go back? Now you've got a chance to see for yourself. You can now download the Apple browser for your Windows machine and feel the Apple experience.

You might go back however if you're a bit stubborn or you're just too used to your existing browser but I would ask that you give it a bit of time.

You won't be disappointed and you may soon find you're opening Safari without giving Explorer a second thought.

If you're using Firefox the pull might be a bit harder and chances are you've got everything just how you like it, so it might be a race Safari has no chance of winning. Still, you can give it a go and see what all the fuss is about.

But how did I find it? Well, it's not as quick as I had hoped for after reading all the blurb, but it was certainly quicker than Internet Explorer.

Pages seemed to take as long to load as they do with Internet Explorer. I initially thought this was a cache issue but after a few days of use it hadn't changed and Firefox was still quicker.

In fact I tested it against Opera, another free and excellent browser, and it was about the same. So if you're using Internet Explorer now and are thinking of giving it a go, then you will be impressed.

Overall, a very decent browser that looks very good. The community behind Firefox and Opera make them my first two choices but I will keep Safari on my machine and use it every now and then, but it has some catching up to do first if it hopes to steal away a few of us Firefox junkies.

Browser speeds according to Apple
Browser speeds according to Apple. Personally, I'd put Firefox first and Opera ahead of IE, but that's just me on my machine!
