There was a third bid, Dennis Mortimer speaks and I'm afraid, he's done it again
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

It turns out there was a third bid received by the club today, despite them telling us a few hours ago that there wasn't. Well, they've back tracked and confirmed that there was.

We all know Barry wants to go but we just don't know what the bids were or the valuation, but I hope this doesn't backfire for Martin O'Neill.

Barry disciplined and no third Liverpool bid
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

MON has disciplined GB for his outburst in his unauthorised interview with the News Of The World.

The skipper has been suspended and thus will not be returning to training tomorrow. This follows his childish rant to the NotW regarding his desire to leave Villa Park for Liverpool.

Dates for your diary: Aston Villa pre-season and more
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

With most of the talk focused on what players are coming in, it's easy to forget that in a little over two weeks we're playing European football - a date where we'd hope to see quite a few of these new signings.

But before and after we sign all these players, there are some other dates worth putting in your diary.

£15m for GB and Lee Naylor
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

The BBC are reporting that Liverpool have offered £15m for GB. I'd say take it as Liverpool might not come back after that and it's the last chance of getting that sort of money for GB.

Liverpool fans, as they have demonstrated in the comments boxes on a number of times on this site, read the AVFC Blog regularly and watch Villa games every week so they would be better informed than us as to whether he really is worth £15m or not. I'd ask them to leave comments, but I have a feeling they probably will anyway.

Curtis Davies talks and I gotta say, maybe he should stick to getting fit again
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

I like Curtis Davies and think, if he can fully recover from his injury, that he's going to turn into a great footballer for Aston Villa, but I'd really like it if that's what he concentrated on.

He's talking about the Gareth Barry situation in the Mail today and the bottom line seems to be that 'Barry is his own man' and 'he's got to look after his family'. What absolute rubbish.

Robert Green from West Ham and final bid from Liverpool that Martin O'Neill really should accept
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

With pre-season training starting tomorrow and in a little over two weeks our first match of the season, things are going to happen very soon and because of that, we've got more rumours for you.

The Guardain are saying that Robert Green from West Ham has had his name added to a short list Martin O'Neill is carrying about himself.

No Hammering for Tommy on the international stage
Tuesday, 01 July 2008

The ever-extending Gareth Barry saga and the recently-concluded Euro 2008 brought to my attention the case-study of another Aston Villa favourite who left to achieve bigger and better things.

The man in question is of course Thomas “The Hammer” Hitzlsperger, who left Villa Park in 2005 to return to Germany.

Maybe not who we were hoping to get linked with: Steed Malbranque
Monday, 30 June 2008

It's a rumour picked up the other day and while I didn't dive straight in as I usually do, it's starting to grow on me, mostly because of the rumoured price.

That price is thought to be around £4mn. and considering he's done a fairly decent job at Fulham and Spurs, it's not a bad price and maybe worthy of some interest.
