Got rid of the landline, now it's purely mobile and Skype

E-mail Print PDF

I'm not a big fan of mobile phones and resolved not to get another one when I moved to Sweden but I soon had to get one. 'Had to' is probably not the right phrase as I could have just got another landline, but with all the hassle - it was just easier, but now I've gone one further and thrown away the landline.

The reason I've done this is because with the mobile phone package I've got, I can phone other mobile phones in Sweden and just pay the connection charge (peanuts) and almost everyone we call in Sweden can be reached via their mobile.

For international calls, I'm going to use Skype and have done now for a while. If you didn't have a headset on, you wouldn't know you were using Skype and could be forgiven for assuming it was a normal lanline, the quality is fantastic. I won't be going for one of those wireless phones because I'm not a big fan of WiFi, but with the money we'll be saving from the first year alone, we can by a new desktop from Dell and enough minutes to last for six months. It sort of makes sense.

So, if you're reading this and you've been wondering why our phone number seems to be always engaged, it's because we aren't using it any more. You've got to contact us via email, mobile phone or Skype from now on.
